Children's Praying Inside Masjid Jamae

Why You Need To Visit

  • A Historical Treasure

With a history that dates all the way back to 1826, this mosque is a must-visit for history buffs. Masjid Jamae was the first of three mosques in Chinatown erected by the Chulias, who were Tamil Muslims from the Coromandel Coast of Southern India.

  • An Architectural Gem

Masjid Jamae's beautiful architecture blends eclectic traditions, from Indian and Islamic styles to western and Greek influences. The entrance gate has a South Indian Indo-Islamic influence, while the prayer hall’s neoclassical features include Doric columns and large windows with Chinese green-glazed tiles.

  • A Home For Knowledge

Besides being a beautiful building, the mosque also organizes classes occasionally. Be sure to check their website for opportunities to participate in seminars, tours and discussions.
