Be enlightened in the dark
Returning for its second edition, the theme for i Light Marina Bay 2012 is “Light Meets Asia” and the festival will come to life daily when night falls.
Be enlightened by 31 outdoor light art installations placed in various open spaces around the Marina Bay and along the 3.5km waterfront promenade—where the famous Merlion sits.
And see the Merlion in a different “light” during the festival. Paying tribute to one of Singapore’s famous icons—OCUBO—an art and multimedia Portugal-based studio, will customised colours referenced from water and earth, and project them onto the surface of the sculpture at night. Bring the Merlion to life as viewers can interact with the specialised touch-screen and interchange the colours projected.
Besides these installations, you’ll also find a full spread of exciting night-time activities such as picnics, carnivals, outdoor performances, plus, guided walking tours and educational talks—augmenting a visitor’s experience and the precinct’s vibrancy.
i Light Marina Bay is Asia’s first and only sustainable light art festival supported by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA)—first conceived in 2010 to mark the completion of major developments around Marina Bay.
The festival celebrates the bay’s nightscape by getting emerging and established artists and designers from around the world. Making use of the open spaces to design dynamic and innovative light art installations, all artworks are created with energy-saving lighting technologies.
So come take a walk to be enlightened, and you’ll see light in a new light.
