The Arts House was first designed and built in 1827 as a Neo-Palladian private residence for Scottish merchant John Maxwell. It was later used as a Court of Law and was called the Court House, before it was turned into the Parliament House in 1999.
A Slice of History
The Arts House is not only Singapore's oldest surviving government building, but also the only gazetted government building designated as a multi-disciplinary arts centre. Opened in 2004, each space in the Arts House contains a hybrid of activities that encourages artistic appreciation in the form of visual, performance arts and even theatre.
A Slice of History
Here, you can access the arts easily through a broad range of programmes by local and international artists through comedies to more avant-garde music pieces. This is one of the most beloved spaces among the local arts community, and is a must-visit, if only for its historical value.
