Returning this May with a host of exciting new initiatives, AFX brings together Singapore’s key fashion events, covering all aspects of the fashion industry, from consumer events and trade shows to industry dedicated talks and talent development programmes.
Happening from 13 to 17 May, Singapore’s premier fashion event takes on a new course this year, claiming the iconic name Singapore Fashion Week (SFW). Building on eight successful editions as a consumer-centric fashion festival, SFW broadens its scope to include thought-leadership and industry development initiatives.
Opening SFW this year is iconic designer and President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), Diane von Furstenberg. Renowned for her iconic wrap dress and signature prints, Diane’s designs have been worn by leading ladies including the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge as well as A-list celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana and Miranda Kerr.
Singapore-based label Ong Shunmugam will also showcase her latest collection on the runways of SFW. Designer Priscilla Shunmugam launched her first ready-to-wear collection in 2010 and focuses on layers of Asian aesthetic, textile and sartorial history in her creations. The label has received the Grand Award at the Design for Asian Awards 2013.
SFW’s new direction also sees the introduction of a new talent support programme with the vision to catapult Singapore’s fashion designers into the international marketplace. This new programme provides designers a platform to showcase their collections to international retailers as well as the opportunity to learn from key industry leaders and professionals. In addition to the new talent support programme, a series of thought-leadership and industry talks will also be organised in partnership with LASALLE College of the Arts. Titled the SFW Fashion Talk Series, fashion students, industry professionals and members of the public can look forward to engage with iconic designer Diane von Furstenberg, CEO of the CFDA, Steven Kolb as well as other industry heavyweights.
Currently in its 6th year, BLUEPRINT in Singapore is the fashion trade gateway for East West Exchange in Asia. BLUEPRINT 2015 will see a stronger curation of exhibiting brands, high profile buyer database and in-house expertise, and a 360 degree experiential tradeshow platform. The tradeshow, which will be held from 14 to 15 May, is the only tradeshow in Asia that uniquely specializes in launching pre-spring collections. It represents fresh-and-forward womenswear, menswear and accessories from Asia’s best emerging and established talents, as well as guiding international brands looking to enter Asian markets.
Apart from its foundation as a tradeshow, the other core facet of BLUEPRINT is Emporium, Asia’s defining shopping event. Happening from 16 - 17 May, public can get first dibs on samples, limited edition items, and off–season collections from designer labels never before stocked in Singapore.
