With world-class facilities and top-notch entertainment, the award-winning Changi Airport is recognised as one of the best in the world, so is there really a need to fret about what to do in transit?

Whether you’re in the country for a few hours or an entire day, there’s definitely always something to do while waiting for your next flight.

If you’ve got less than 5.5 hours…

Enjoy duty-free shopping and be spoilt for choice with over 350 stores to choose from across the three terminals. Luxury goods by brands like Bottega Veneta, sportswear labels such as Adidas, sweet treats from stores like Candy Empire – the list is virtually endless.

If you’re in dire need of some R&R, take a stroll through the airport’s various gardens – such as the Sunflower garden, Butterfly garden (home to over 1,000 of the critters), and Orchid garden, which features more than 700 orchids – or hit up the Wellness Oasis, where the treatments have been specifically tailored to address ailments related to travel. Following that you can take a dip in the gorgeous rooftop pool over at Terminal 1, just across the Transit Hotel.

Need something to stimulate your mind? Head to the Entertainment Deck. There are a bunch of things to do here – play games on the Xbox Kinect, watch music videos in the MTV booth or even catch a flick in the movie theatre. If you’ve got your family with you, visit the Family Zone for facilities like nursing rooms and play areas for the kids. On the other hand, if you want your young ones to have some major fun, take them to The Slide @ T3 – Singapore's tallest slide.

In between, you can explore the airport’s many dining options. There's the 24Hr Food Gallery if you want a taste of Singapore's local creations, alongside restaurants like ramen joint Ippudo Express and Kaveri Vegetarian Cuisine.

Have some time to kill before heading to the boarding gates? Check out the face-scanning and motion silhouette installations enabled by flipdot technology, located at Terminal 2 Transit Hall. Take a photo with your chosen interest theme at the face-scanning installation. You’ll receive your unique flipdot selfie in an email, complete with a list of events happening in Singapore.

At the motion silhouette installation, enter the virtual realm as your life-sized silhouette is reproduced on the flipdot screen, and interact with the elements projected on the screen. A flippin’ good time awaits.

If you’ve got more than 5.5 hours…

Got time to spare and wouldn’t mind a free tour of Singapore? Organised by Singapore Tourism Board, Singapore Airlines, and Changi Airport Group, the Free Singapore Tour (FST) is open to transit passengers of all airlines. All you have to do is register your spot for tours like the Heritage Tour, which brings you to historical sites and areas like the Civic District, and Kampong Glam, as well as the City Sights Tour (which features landmarks and attractions like the Singapore Flyer and Gardens by the Bay).

Should you require a place to stay, you can choose from the array of transit hotels available in the area, including Aerotel Transit Hotel and Ambassador Transit Hotel.

With so much to see and do at Changi Airport (and in Singapore), there’s really no need to worry about what to do in transit. Want more information? Find what you need here.
