IMEX Frankfurt continued to impress exhibitors and participants from the meetings industry with its ability to provide great opportunities for networking, learning and collaborating for business. The show continued to grow this year and saw many first-time buyers from countries such as Argentina, Brazil, China, Egypt, India and Israel.

Singapore took up a larger space of 99 square metres this year. The “City in a Garden” themed pavilion encapsulated Singapore’s proposition as a destination and visitors were delighted with the eye-catching vertical orchid garden made out of real orchids.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the record participation of 16 exhibition partners enjoyed quality meetings and opportunities to showcase Singapore as a major MICE destination. The Singapore group also celebrated the city-state’s Golden Jubilee by presenting a host of exclusive MICE-related promotions from hotels, event venues, and attractions that encouraged international meeting buyers to host their events in Singapore during the celebration year.

The SG50 celebration continued with a Jubilee reception held at a former textile factory that was transformed to depict aspects of Singapore – conveying the city-state’s unique blend of old and new, and its transformation to modern-day Singapore.

More than 80 key decision makers and partners enjoyed an immersive evening infused with authentic Singapore experiences from local food served from ‘hawker stalls’ to Singapore performances and specially-concocted Golden Jubilee drinks.

The YourSingapore360 kit was also launched at IMEX Frankfurt, where visitors to the pavilion were brought on a virtual 3-D tour of Singapore. It leveraged technology to transport visitors to five scenic spots in Singapore – including Chinatown, Clarke Quay, Gardens by the Bay, Orchard Road, and the S.E.A. Aquarium at Resorts World Sentosa. This created much excitement amongst international event planners who felt that the YourSingapore360 kit was a great introduction to the city and its unique meeting venues.

Politicians Forum – sharing of best practices at government-to-government level

The Politicians Forum has become a highlight of IMEX Frankfurt as an important platform for national and regional politicians, and government officials from around the world to share best practices and discuss ways to secure economic, social and reputational dividends from hosting meetings and events. The 2015 strategic forum was attended by 40 politicians and influencers, and up to 80 industry leaders including heads of MICE industry associations, heads of convention bureaus and national tourism offices.

Alongside his international counterparts from Brazil, Canada, France, Iceland, Italy, Malaysia, Portugal and South Africa, STB’s Chief Executive Lionel Yeo spoke on the importance of strong destination branding in support of the meetings industry. He also emphasized that inter-agency collaboration was critical to ensure cohesion in bidding for events and marketing a destination.

Looking ahead, STB will also be leading a contingent to IMEX America. For details on participation, please contact:
