Singapore’s vibrant design scene comes alive with increasing achievements and international events in design and architecture
For three days, over 2,200 members of the international architecture community will be in Singapore to celebrate, learn, exchange and be inspired at the World Architecture Festival. The theme of this year’s programme – 50:50 will examine how architecture and urbanism have changed over the last 50 years, how predictions have been fulfilled or denied, and how this will change in the next 50 years.
Festival highlights include:
Keynote presentations. Some of the leading architects and designers in the world will present their insights and observations about architecture, good design and projections for the future. Among those slated to give insightful talks include Liu Thai Ker, one of Singapore’s architectural fathers; Alex McDowell, digital innovator and production designer behind films such as Minority Report; and architectural critic and author, Michael Sorkin.
Live crit presentations. Hear the inside story on hundreds of projects and find out what the WAF judges think about this year’s finalists from over 46 countries including Zaha Hadid Architects, OMA, Foster + Partners, Herzog & de Meuron, BIG and Heatherwick Studio.
Exclusive tours. Singapore is a country that has some of the best modern architecture in the world. During the festival, there will be exclusive tours to some of the country’s latest and most exciting architectural projects including Nanyang Technological University’s new Learning Lab designed by Heatherwick Studio; the Tanjong Pagar Centre designed by SOM and the ETH Future Cities Laboratory.
INSIDE is a conference and exhibition on the latest and greatest in global interiors. Over three inspiration-filled days INSIDE shines a spotlight on the people, projects and developments that are changing the face of global interiors. The event will comprise of live crits of work from over 50 international designers, architect-led design tours; a PechaKucha night and site visits.
