To celebrate our largest Expo entry to date, Singapore now introduces LIU LIAN XIAO XING, our official mascot. A cute and lovable icon, he's your friendly guide to Urban Symphony. Follow LIU LIAN XIAO XING as he embarks on his musical adventure, for he'll show you all the interesting insights as well as exclusive previews of the Singapore Pavilion.

Background

Drawing inspiration from our iconic Merlion and The King of Fruits, the Durian, Singapore Tourism Board developed LIU LIAN XIAO XING – a lovable and easily recognisable character.

LIU LIAN XIAO XING is a five-year-old Singaporean boy who travels around the world with his parents, who are well respected musicians.

He is nuts about durians but they are not readily available in some of the places they travel to. He loves them so much that he enjoys sketching pictures of the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay because they resemble the durian! The poor boy thinks about durians all day, so his Mum made a delightful little costume for him that looks just like one. (Now everywhere he travels, the little King of fruits makes the other children green with envy!)

He wears red overalls emblazoned with a picture of the Merlion in homage to his favourite toy – a Merlion beanie he cuddles to sleep every night. His cap, shaped just like a durian was inspired by his love of the fruit and his sketches of the Esplanade!

Personality

LIU LIAN XIAO XING is an open, friendly and upbeat boy. His friends love having him around because he is always so bubbly and makes them laugh.

He is a curious cat with an insatiable appetite for adventure. He likes travelling with his parents. He never seems to lose his sense of wonder when he sees new things: the thrill of discovering new places and cultures; the marvel of magnificent ancient buildings; the fascination of exotic traditions and histories.

He is an inquisitive boy: he loves to ask questions. He is like a sponge, absorbing information, always learning, always eager for more, always finding out why.

He especially loves meeting new people, no matter what country they come from. The more the merrier, the little munchkin always says. He is sincere and likeable, fast to make friends, slow to forget them. People never fail to be charmed by this diminutive well-travelled boy who has a worldly outlook on life that belies his age.

Values

Coming from Singapore, which places a premium on being a Garden City, he is environmentally conscious as well as civic minded.

LIU LIAN XIAO XING loves nature. His favourite moments are those spent on picnics with his parents at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on lazy Sunday afternoons, drawing durians under the cool shade of a palm tree. He enjoys music and often spends his evenings catching free outdoor performances at the Esplande.

Favourite Food

Durians, Laksa, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Black Pepper Chilli Crab, Roti Prata.

Activities

He loves drawing durians as well as his favourite building, the iconic Esplanade – Theatre on the bay. Hiking at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, picnicking at the Botanic Gardens with his family. He enjoys playing the piano, violin and ethnic instruments such the Chinese erhu and the Indian tabla which was taught to him by his parents.
